1) Accounts - All BEE students are given a computer account that is centrally
administrated. It is an ENGRaccount, which is accessible from any machine on campus, as long as you login to
the ENGINEERING domain. If you have not set up your account, you may do so by taking you student ID card to Hovland
Room 108. Use your ID with the swipe card reader to access the machines, and follow the instructions to create a new
account. Remember your account name and password…
2) Drive Space - When you log on from any NT server on campus to the ENGINEERING domain,
you will automatically have a drive mapped (Z:) to a STAK volume on a central
ENGR server. This provides you with 100MB of space on that server.
3) Email - Once you set up your account, you will automatically have an email
address. However, you will still need to set up a mail client to access this account.
In the BEE department, we support the Outlook Express client, available
on the Windows desktop on BEE computers. When you first run Outlook Express, you will have to specify information about your
account and the mail server. The account you will use will be your login account on engr.orst.edu. The mail
server is engr.orst.edu, for both sending mail and receiving mail. You should set up an IMAP account; this
allows you to store your mail on the server (rather than locally), which allows
you to use any computer to access your mail messages. You are given 2MB of storage for mail on the server, with a temporary
limit of up to 6MB.
4) Web pages - You can create a web page for yourself on your STAK drive.
To do this, see the College of Engineering support pages at http://www.engr.orst.edu/computing/faqs/web.html.
5) Printing - When you log into the BIOENGINEERING domain from a BEE computer, you will
have access to publicly available printers. These are the printers in the BEE computer annex labs.
6) Installing software on a BEE lab computer - You will not be able to install software on a BEE computer without
authorization of the BEE network administrator. If you have legitimate need to install legitimate software, contact
Bob for permissions and instructions.
7) BEE lists - BEE maintains mailing lists for students and faculty.
YOU MAY ONLY USE AN ONID OR ENGR EMAIL ADDRESS FOR THIS LIST.
To subscribe yourself to the graduate student list, go to https://secure.engr.oregonstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/bee-grad.
To send mail to the list of subscribed BEE graduate students, send mail
to: bee-grad@engr.orst.edu.
To subscribe yourself to the undergraduate student list, go to https://secure.engr.oregonstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/ecoe-undergrad.
